What is dhanak fabric?

Dhanak is a soft, brushed winter fabric with a lightly napped surface — the fuzzy, blanket-like feel that makes it so comfortable in cold weather. It holds warmth well while staying softer and more breathable against the skin than heavier winter cloth, which is why it has become one of the most popular choices for Pakistani winter suits. It also takes embroidery beautifully: the brushed surface gives thread work a rich, slightly raised finish that flatter, smoother fabrics can't match.

Dhanak, karandi or khaddar — which should you choose?

All three are winter fabrics, and they behave quite differently:

• Dhanak — the softest of the three. Brushed, warm and light on the shoulders. Best for everyday winter wear and for anyone who finds heavier winter fabrics itchy.
• Karandi — a textured, slightly slubby weave with more structure. Warmer-looking, holds its shape well, and suits more formal winter dressing.
• Khaddar — a denser woven cotton. The most robust of the three and the warmest in real cold, with a matte, traditional finish.

Every dhanak suit can be bought as unstitched fabric for your own tailor, or stitched by us for Rs.1,500–2,500 depending on the design. Tick Get It Stitched on any product page and choose a standard size (XS–XL) or enter your own measurements. Stitched orders dispatch about two working days after unstitched ones. How to care for dhanak

Dhanak is easy to look after if you're gentle with it. Hand wash or use a gentle machine cycle in cold water, wash darker shades separately for the first wash or two, and dry in shade rather than direct sun so the colour and the brushed surface stay as they should. Avoid wringing it hard — press the water out instead. A cool iron on the reverse is enough for embroidered panels.

Is dhanak warm enough for Pakistani winters?

Yes. Dhanak is one of the standard winter fabrics across Pakistan and is comfortable through most of the season. In the coldest weeks it layers well under a shawl or coat.

What is the difference between dhanak and lawn?

Lawn is a lightweight summer cotton — thin, crisp and breathable. Dhanak is brushed and thicker, made to hold warmth. They are opposite ends of the year.

How much does a dhanak suit cost?

Does dhanak shrink?

Very little if you wash it in cold water and dry it in shade. Avoid hot water and tumble drying, which are what cause brushed fabrics to shrink or lose softness.
